WHAT ARE DIFFERENT STYLES OF SALSA? WHICH IS EASIER TO LEARN?
In Singapore, there are 3 predominant styles:
Is it only possible to dance with someone of the opposite Gender?
This is woefully incorrect.
It is true that the roles of Lead and Follow are usually taken on by men and women respectively, as salsa (like many partner dances) have their roots in eras that upheld traditional gender roles. That said, the technical terms used are "Lead" and "Follow", rather than "Men" and "Women" (or other similar iterations), and it is increasingly common to see a few dancers on the dance floor who are equally comfortable in either role, especially those who are, or eventually will be, instructors. Any student will be allowed to choose to learn either role regardless of gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, and religious denomination; this policy is strictly enforced for instructors in Duende, as well as in our main company, What Box Studios. |

What are the different styles of Jazz? Which one is easier to learn?
There are multiple variants of jazz, and the group we're most familiar with nowadays is sometimes called modern jazz. Modern jazz was shaped quite definitively by the balletic and contemporary influences throughout the 1900s.
As with all dances and skills, there is no one style that is easier or harder to learn. It mostly depends on what you like. The more you learn, the easier it becomes. Duende SG currently offers only Lyrical and Street Jazz, but we'll be sure to let you know about new additions! What is Lyrical Jazz?
Lyrical Jazz is a form of jazz dance that is defined by smooth transitions from one movement to the next. This makes it a very effective form to train a sense of musicality and minimise a dependence conscientious counting of beats.
What is street jazz?
Street Jazz incorporates flavours of street dances (hip hop, breakdance, etc) into jazz dance. The result is a dance that is equal parts hard-hitting and smooth. This makes it a good form within which to learn adaptability, musical accents, and muscle control.

What are Secret Spin Secrets?
These classes focus specifically on the tips and tricks required for spinning and turning. The secret of spins!
Turns are universal to nearly all forms of dance we know and love. They add a lot of texture to the dance, and are visually stunning. They are, however, the most technically demanding moves. These classes are dedicated towards learning and building upon the skills and muscle groups required for good spins. Based on jazz turns, but applicable across most dance forms. What are Castanet Classes?
These are classes designed solely to teach, train, and build upon castanet-playing skills. While far less physically demanding than regular dance classes and entirely possible to take it by itself, it is specifically created to complement Spanish Dance lessons.
